TRAVEL

Getting to Brazil

Starting April 10, 2025, travelers from Australia, Canada, and the United States will need a tourist e-Visa to enter Brazil.

If you are a citizen of one of these countries, you can apply online through the official portal: https://brazil.vfsevisa.com

Application Requirements

To apply for an e-Visa, you will need:

  • A valid passport (must be signed, valid through the end of your stay in Brazil, and have at least two blank visa pages)
  • A completed online visa application form
  • A passport-style photo (2” x 2”, white background)
  • Payment of the e-Visa fee: USD $80.90

For questions, you may contact: visa.miami@itamaraty.gov.br

If you require a visitor visa, you will be applying for the Visitor Visa (VIVIS), which covers tourism and other short-term visits. For additional information about permitted activities and conditions, you can refer to the Brazilian government's official visa page:  Visitor Visa (VIVIS)

GETTING AROUND

Fortaleza is serviced by Pinto Martins International Airport (FOR), located about 4 miles south of the city center—roughly a 15–20 minute drive to Av. Beira Mar. When you arrive, your best bet is to request an Uber—there’s a clearly marked pick‑up zone near Door 6 on Level 1 at the arrivals hall.

While Uber is usually the most convenient way to get around, it’s not without quirks. Drivers often don’t wait long once they arrive, so it’s best to be ready before requesting your ride. It’s also common for rides to be canceled more frequently than in other cities, especially during busy times or in less central areas. Still, Uber is an affordable and generally reliable way to get around Fortaleza

WHERE TO STAY

We recommend staying in the Beira Mar neighborhood, specifically in front of the famous beachfront market,  Feirinha da Beira Mar, for the best experience. It’s walkable and right by the beach—perfect for enjoying the sunset and local restaurants.  We suggest a few hotels in the area, but really, anywhere nearby will be great!
