Fortaleza is serviced by Pinto Martins International Airport (FOR), located about 4 miles south of the city center—roughly a 15–20 minute drive to Av. Beira Mar. When you arrive, your best bet is to request an Uber—there’s a clearly marked pick‑up zone near Door 6 on Level 1 at the arrivals hall.
While Uber is usually the most convenient way to get around, it’s not without quirks. Drivers often don’t wait long once they arrive, so it’s best to be ready before requesting your ride. It’s also common for rides to be canceled more frequently than in other cities, especially during busy times or in less central areas. Still, Uber is an affordable and generally reliable way to get around Fortaleza
We recommend staying in the Beira Mar neighborhood, specifically in front of the famous beachfront market, Feirinha da Beira Mar, for the best experience. It’s walkable and right by the beach—perfect for enjoying the sunset and local restaurants. We suggest a few hotels in the area, but really, anywhere nearby will be great!
We’re so excited you’ll be experiencing Brazil—especially the vibrant northeast! From the beautiful beaches to the delicious food and rich culture, there’s so much to fall in love with. Fortaleza is known for its laid-back vibe, friendly locals, and stunning coastline. Here are some of our favorite things to do, eat, and see in Fortaleza to help you make the most of your trip!
Barracas are beachside restaurants and lounges found along Fortaleza’s coast, especially at Praia do Futuro. They offer food, drinks, music, and comfy spots to relax. We recommend Sunrise Beach Club, P5 Kite House, or Barraca America do Sol if you want a more family friendly vibe.
Beach Park is one of the top attractions near Fortaleza and perfect for a day of fun for both kids and adults. With waterslides, lazy rivers, and splash zones, plus beachside lounges and restaurants, it’s a great spot for families looking to cool off and enjoy some adventure.
Central de Artesanato do Ceará (CeArt) is a must-visit for anyone looking to take home a piece of local culture. It features a wide variety of handmade items—like lace, leather goods, ceramics, and woven crafts—all made by artisans from across the state. It’s the perfect place for high-quality, authentic souvenirs.
Churrasco is Brazil’s famous barbecue, where various cuts of meat are grilled over open flames. Be sure to try picanha, a tender and flavorful cut that’s a local favorite and a must-have for any meat lover visiting Brazil. Check out Dom Churrasco.
Fortaleza is surrounded by stunning coastal spots that make for perfect day trips. Head to Cumbuco for dune buggy rides and lagoons, or visit Morro Branco and Canoa Quebrada for dramatic cliffs and colorful beaches. And if you're up for going a little farther, don't miss Jericoacoara—a breathtaking beach town known for its dunes, lagoons, and laid-back charm.
The Feirinha da Beira Mar is a vibrant artisan fair right along the beachfront in Meireles. With over 700 stalls, it offers a colorful mix of local crafts, delicious snacks, and a festive atmosphere—from the late afternoon until 10 PM daily.
Fortaleza’s nightlife is lively and diverse, with beach bars, live music, and samba clubs. For a true local experience, be sure to try a night of forró, the region’s energetic traditional dance and music.
These are a few of our favorite spots so far, but we know Fortaleza has so much more to offer! We’re asking the locals for their must-visit places, so stay tuned for more recommendations coming soon.
